As a child, I used to wake up every Valentine’s Day to a “Love Hunt” put on by my mother. There is a home video of my dad and I running around looking for gifts when I was about the same age as Auggie is now. I don’t remember the love hunt obviously, but I loved seeing the video. So, this year, I decided to do the same for Bryson and Auggie.
What is a love hunt?
A love hunt is basically a scavenger hunt.
For our love hunt, Bryson and Auggie started the game by reading a heart-shaped Valentine’s Day Card that I had cut out of construction paper. It told them how much I loved them and then gave away the first clue:
“Roses are Red. Violets are Blue. Find me where Horses go Neigh and Cows go Mooooo.”
Auggie took off, with little help, to his closet where we store his toys, in particularly his farm animals.
There, he found a gift, not wrapped in Valentine’s Day paper. (Forgot about that detail!)
The next clue…
“You make me hot!”
… was directed more towards dad, as it was hidden in the oven.
There were 5 clues total, which was plenty for Auggie’s attention span. Luckily, I saved his new Melissa and Doug mixer for last. After he opened it, he didn’t want to do much of anything else, including eat his breakfast.
I did manage to get him to eat a halfway-done Valentine’s Day Oreo Truffle we made together while Dad was away with work this week. I haven’t gotten them dipped in chocolate yet, but Auggie likes them regardless.
If you ask me, that was the best part about Valentine’s Day, or really any day, this year. I don’t have to be Supermom to be loved by Auggie.
