This year his party decor was maybe my most favorite we’ve done. But, due to Covid-19, we had to make some adjustments.

The party itself was… different. There was a hesitation to truly enjoy everyone’s company, and Auggie sensed it. In fact, he cried at one of the “intermissions” between groups of people because he just wanted “one, big party.” Of course, we had to explain that one big party was not something we were comfortable with or willing to risk just for an evening of fun. It wasn’t a fun conversation to have on his (and maybe even my) favorite day of the year, but I hope we’re better because of it. Sometimes, life is just hard.

Overall, after we had our little pity party (and nap!), the never ending, physically distanced “parties” continued, and Auggie adjusted and seemed to be enjoying the party almost as much as usual. Though I did have to promise him that next year, we’d just have one big party, so I’m counting on you all to wear your masks and wash your hands and keep your distance so I don’t have to break my promise! He already informed me that next year will be police officer themed, so we’ll see if that sticks! And for now, it’s on to planning a most likely socially distanced 1st birthday party for little sister.

Special thanks to my mom for the boat creation and late nights crafting, my mother and father in law for early morning set up assistance and some supplies, and to all those we came, put up with our requests to stay physically distanced, and made Auggie feel special even during a global pandemic. You all made a newly 4 year old boy very happy!
